I was really inspired to start my own after reading your blogs, because I noticed how many of you had amazing stories, dealing with eating disorders and overcoming them, or having awesome weight-loss stories.
I have a story of my own, too. I grew up in a house where both my mom and my dad were health conscious, gym-goers, however, they never encouraged me or my sister to be active. My dad's approach to health was like "eat a lot of protein, and you'll be fine", and my mom's was more like everything in moderation is fine. However, as a kid, I was always active, playing and everything, and I was slim.
My weight problems started when I was 12, and since then I've battled with weight gain, eating disorders, anxiety, and a thyroid condition.
I was diagnosed with a thyroid condition about 3 years ago. At first I was very angry, because as soon as I was put into treatment, I started gaining weight! (not that I was too slim to begin with, anyway!) However, now I see it as a blessing, because that has changed my life! The doctor told me I could become a diabetic because I wasn't metabolizing insulin properly, and that I had to change my eating habits, ASAP! So I did!!! I cut down ALL sugar, and started eating very healthy. I also started running.
Since then, I went through phases were sometimes I ate too little or exercised too much, or counted calories like crazy! But now I'm starting to find a balance. I stopped counting calories like a mad woman since January this year. It's taken a few visits to a shrink and a lot of meditation, but I got it! :D
I still run, but 2 or 3 days a week I try to do something different, like walking or swimming, to give my knees and joints some free time. Of course rest days are important, too! I'm starting to listen to my body, and to be more intuitive in my eating.
Also, before, I used to eat a lot of "light" or "fat-free" or "sugar free" packaged stuff, to keep my calorie count, but not anymore! I eat a lot more of natural, unprocessed foods.
So, here's my story!! I hope you come back to read my daily eats, struggles, and watch some real food porn! hehe!
